PRINCETON (12/3/10) - Yale scored two power-play goals in the first period and held on from there en route to a 2-1 win over the Princeton women's hockey team on Friday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
Yale's two goals came less than two minutes apart as the Bulldogs converted on power-play chances at 11:02 and 12:48 of the first period. First Jackie Raines redirected scored on a redirect off Jenna Ciotti's centering pass. Then Alyssa Zupon had Bray Kethcum's pass ricochet off her foot and get behind Princeton goaltender Rachel Weber.
Following the goal momentum swung in Princeton's favor but the Tigers could never draw even. Olivia Mucha got the Tigers within a goal 1:07 into the second when she took a Denna Laing pass and skated out from behind the net and slid the puck under Yale netminder Jackee Snikeris. Sally Butler also assisted on Mucha's second goal in as many games.
Princeton continued to control play over the final 40 minutes but could never score the equalizer. Princeton outshot Yale 27-8 in the loss, including 11-0 in the final stanza holding Yale without a shot, but Snikeris stood tall in the opposite end.
The Tigers fall to 3-10-1 overall and 3-6-1 in ECAC Hockey. Princeton hosts Brown on Saturday afternoon.
