Dutchwomen Fall in OT in Home Opener

SCHENECTADY, NY-  The Union College women’s ice hockey team dropped the puck on the 2010-2011 season and played a close game with visiting Northeastern but fell 3-2 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink.

The Dutchwomen struck first in the first period at 6:35 as Callee Heywood pushed the puck past Huskie goaltender Floren Schelling. Northeastern would tie it up at 12:55.

After the Huskies went up 2-1 at 6:15 of the second period, Union knotted it up at two each just seven seconds later on an unassisted goal by Elsa Bruestle.

Following a scoreless third period, the game headed to overtime and the Huskies scored the game winner at 3:34.

Katie Gallagher started in goal for the Dutchwomen and made 34 saves. 

Union returns to home ice next Saturday Oct. 9 as they will host the defending Hockey East Champions Boston University at 2 p.m.
