Quinnipiac Completes Series Sweep Over Niagara

NIAGARA, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac University women’s ice hockey team skated to a 3-1 victory over Niagara University to complete the two-game weekend series sweep at Dwyer Arena. Freshman forward Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) factored in all three Quinnipiac goals, registering a goal and two assists on the afternoon. The win improves Quinnipiac’s record to 2-0-0 while Niagara falls to 0-2-0 on the season.


Quinnipiac’s freshmen were a force offensively on the afternoon, as Babstock, a goal and two assists, and freshman forward Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden), three assists in the game, led the charge. Junior defender Bethany Dymarczyk (Hamden, Conn.) and sophomore defender Regan Boulton (Brandon, Manitoba) each registered their first goals of the year.


Sophomore goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) earned her second win of the season, as she made 24 saves on the afternoon, besting her counterpart, senior Jenni Bauer, who made 20 saves in the contest.


The Bobcats took the early 1-0 lead at 8:33 of the first period on Dymarczyk’s first goal. On the play, she was assisted by Babstock and Uden Johansson.


Quinnipiac took advantage in the second period off an early game misconduct penalty against Niagara. The Bobcats needed just 13 seconds of power-play action to record their second goal of the afternoon, as Boulton scored 45 seconds into the period. Uden Johansson and Babstock each were credited with their second assist of the afternoon.


Quinnipiac’s final goal came at 13:06 mark of the third period, as Babstock scored off an assist from Uden Johansson assist, her third helper of the game, and junior forward Kate Wheeler (Oakville, Ontario).


Niagara’s lone goal came in the first period on sophomore forward Natasha Fryer’s first goal of the season at the 16:56 mark. She was assisted by senior forward Autum Stuntz and junior defender Sarah Zacharias.


Quinnipiac’s power-play defense blanked Niagara for the second straight game, going 3-for-3 in power-play kills on the afternoon and 9-for-9 overall on the weekend.


Quinnipiac returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. against Northeast University at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Connecticut. The following night, Sunday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m., Quinnipiac hosts Sacred Heart University.
