Cornell & Harvard Ranked in National Polls
ALBANY, NY – The national voters in the USCHO.com poll, released Monday, January 31 and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, released Tuesday, February, 1, have recognized two ECAC Hockey teams this week. League leader Cornell is ranked No. 2/2 in both polls, while Harvard returns to the national spotlight in the No. 10/10 spot in each poll.
Once again Cornell sits at No. 2/2 with 179 points and eight first-place votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women’s College Hockey poll and 139 points and four first-place votes in the USCHO.com poll. The Big Red remains undefeated in ECAC Hockey action at 16-0 and ran its winning streak to 18 games, which is tops in the nation. The Big Red host netted 73 goals in conference games this season, while only surrendering eight. Cornell continues to lead the nation in scoring defense (0.70 G/GM); scoring margin (3.96); power-play (26.9%) success rate; penalty kill (97.2%); and winning percentage (.957%) with a 22-1-0 overall record. Cornell will travel to the North Country this weekend to battle Clarkson and St. Lawrence this weekend.
Currently Harvard sits in second-place in ECAC Hockey standings with a record of 11-3-2. The Crimson returns to the national ranking for the fifth time this season. Harvard earned 10 points, which places it in the No. 10 spot in the USCHO.com poll and 12 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, which also places it in the No. 10 slot. With wins over Brown, 4-0, Friday and Yale, 5-3, Saturday, Harvard has now won six straight games. Harvard returns home for its next two contests as it welcomes Princeton and Quinnipiac to Bright Hockey Center next weekend.
Dartmouth and Quinnipiac also received one votes in one of the national polls this week. .
