Vigilanti is League's Top Rookie
ALBANY, N.Y. -- ECAC Hockey today announced Quinnipiac University netminder Victoria Vigilanti has been named the league's 2009-10 ECAC Hockey Women's Rookie of the Year.
The first Quinnipiac student-athlete to earn the honor, Vigilanti started all 22 conference games, recording an 11-4-7 mark in ECAC Hockey play. The rookie set her personal season-high save record against Cornell (Feb. 5) and Clarkson (Feb. 13) when she turned aside 37 shots in both games. Her efforts in net earned her seven weekly awards on the year, as she was named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week four times and ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week three times. Vigilanti backboned a Bobcats' defense that saw a team earn a record in conference wins (11) and earn their first postseason host position in the program's history. She finished the regular-season ranked first in the ECAC Hockey standings in save percentage (.957) and second in goals-against average (1.15), and also recorded four shutouts in league games.
The other finalists for the award were Laura Fortino, Cornell and Jillian Dempsey of Harvard.
