Weekend Update: Home Ice Advantage

ALBANY, N.Y. --  Four out of the five ECAC Hockey women's contests Friday were won by the home team.  Teams have sported a 38-35-16 home record in conference action on the season.  Three of yesterday's games featured shutouts, as Clarkson, Princeton, and Rensselaer all blanked its opponents.

At No. 3/3 Clarkson 3, Colgate 0:  The Golden Knights picked up their fifth shutout in league play with a 3-0 victory over Colgate.  Sophomore Juana Baribeau figured in on all the scoring with two goals and one assist, and junior Lauren Dahm posted 25 saves for Clarkson at Cheel Arena.  Clarkson outshot Colgate 28-25.  Dahm made eight saves in the first, nine stops in the second, and eight more over the final 20 minutes to post her seventh shutout of the season and 17th career whitewash.  Only three penalties were called in the contest.  Colgate was 0-of-2 on the power-play, while the Golden Knights did not connect on their only man-advantage opportunities.  Sophomore netminder Kimberly Sass made 25 for the Raiders.

No. 7/7 Harvard 4 at Dartmouth 1:  Kate Buesser scored two goals and added an assist, while Randi Griffin and Liza Ryabkina each dished out two helpers to lead the seventh-ranked Harvard women's hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Dartmouth Friday afternoon at Thompson Arena.  Laura Bellamy earned the win in goal, making a career-high 37 saves.  Kathryn Farni and Kaitlin Spurling also found the back of the net for the Crimson.  The Big Green outshot the Crimson by a count of 38 to 28.  Harvard held the Big Green scoreless on five power-play attempts, while going 1-for-3 with the man-advantage.  Dartmouth got its lone goal from freshman Sally Komarek with the assists going to classmates Lisa Berreman and Margaux Sharp. Dartmouth senior netminder Mariel Lacina took the loss, making 24 saves.

Princeton 3 at Union 0:  Freshman Corey Stearns had two goals and an assist as the Tigers skated to a 3-0 win at Union Friday night.  Stearns had the primary assist on Princeton's first goal late in the first period and then scored two in the second period in the team's fourth shutout of the season. Princeton outshot Union 41-16 in the game.  Rachel Weber made all 16 saves to earn the win for Princeton, while Alana Marcinko stopped 38 in a losing effort for the Dutchwomen.  Princeton netted two power-play goals on three chances, while Union went scoreless on its two opportunities with a man-advantage.  The Tigers are now 2-0-1 in their last three games and are tied for fourth in ECAC Hockey standings with 19 points.

At Rensselaer 1, Quinnipiac 0:  The Bobcats saw their six-game winning streak come to an end Friday evening at Houston Field House as junior Kendra Dunlop's goal at 4:24 of the third period proved to be the game-winner for Rensselaer, who edged Quinnipiac, 1-0.  RPI, which has now won each of its last three league contests, remains in fourth-place in the conference standings with 19 points.  They are tied with Saturday's opponent Princeton, which also has 19 points after a 3-0 victory over the Dutchwomen Friday.  Quinnipiac falls to sixth-place in the standings, tied with St. Lawrence with 17 points.  Sonja van der Bliek finished with 17 saves in the contest to earn the shutout win for the Engineers.  Bobcats' Victoria Vigilanti finished with 24 stops in the loss for Quinnipiac, posting eight saves in the first period, 10 in the second, and six in the third.

At St. Lawrence 2, Cornell 2 (ot):   Cornell junior Karlee Overguard scored a goal late with 1:14 remaining in regulation that lifted the Big Red women's hockey team to a 2-2 tie at St. Lawrence Friday night in Canton, N.Y.   Laura Fortino added the other goal for the Big Red, while Hayley Hughes, Catherine White, and Melanie Jue each had an assist.  Netminder Amanda Mazzotta stopped 26 shots in earning the tie for the Big Red.  The Scarlet and Brown's senior assistant captain Britni Smith netted a power-play goal past Mazzotta for a 1-0 lead.  Senior assistant captain Courtney Sawchuk made her first goal of the season count, as she gave St. Lawrence its lead back at 2-1 midway through the third period.  Cornell finished with a 34-28 advantage on shots thanks to a 10-5 second period, but finished 0-for-5 on the power-play to St. Lawrence's 1-for-3 mark.  Mazzotta closed with a game-high 26 saves, while Brittony Chartier finished with 17 and Maxie Weisz with 15 for the Saints.
