Weekend Update: Tight League Games

ALBANY, N.Y. --  The  typical element of solid goaltending in ECAC Hockey play was featured in the first weekend of conference action in the second part of the season.  The four league contests yesterday were decided by two or fewer goals with each goal scored being more precious than the next.

No. 3/3 Clarkson 3 at Union 1:  The Golden Knights won their third straight game improving their record to 15-4-1 overall and 9-1-0 in conference games with a 3-1 road win at Union.  Clarkson received its offense from sophomore Brittany Mulligan who netted the Golden Knights' first goal, senior Dominique Thibault, who scored her team-high 12th goal of the season, and her league-high eighth in conference action for the team's second tally, and sophomore Juana Baribeau who added an empty netter.  Clarkson finished with a 40-20 edge in shots in the game as Lauren Dahm made 19 saves for her 15th victory of the campaign.  Alana Marcinko stopped 37 shots for Union.

At Quinnipiac 2, Dartmouth 1:  The Bobcats matched the program's best record in conference play with a 2-1 home win over visiting Dartmouth.  Freshman forward Brittany Lyons scored the game-winning goal with five minutes remaining in the third period to lift Quinnipiac to the victory.  Senior forward Kallie Flor notched the first Bobcats' goal as their record improves to 8-7-6 overall on the year, with a 5-3-5 record in ECAC Hockey.  Senior forward Jenna Cunningham recorded the lone goal for the Big Green.  Victoria Vigilanti recorded 20 saves in her seventh win of the season while Dartmouth goaltender, Mariel Lacina, stopped 24 shots by the Bobcats.  The Big Green drops to 6-7-2 on the season, with a 4-5-1 mark in conference play.

St. Lawrence 3 at Rensselaer 1:  Entering the final stanza trailing 1-0, the Saints used three third period goals to skate passed Rensselaer, 3-1 at Houston Field House Friday evening.  The Saints improve to 8-7-5 overall and 5-3-2 in ECAC Hockey play with the come-from-behind win.  Meanwhile, Rensselaer falls to 7-9-4 (4-3-2) after seeing its 1-0 lead disappear early in the final frame.  Michelle Zimmerman notched the unassisted game-winning goal for the Saints.  Neither team would take advantage on the power-play as RPI went 0 for 5, while the Saints were 0 for 4.  In goal, senior Brittony Chartier made 17 stops for the Saints to improve to 7-5-4 on the season.  For RPI, Sonja van der Bliek stopped 23 shots and is now 7-9-3 overall.

No. 5/5 Harvard 3 at Princeton 3 (ot):  The fifth-ranked Crimson came back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 3-3 tie at Princeton Friday afternoon at Baker Rink.  Anna McDonald, Kelsey Romatoski and Jillian Dempsey each netted goals for the Crimson, while Laura Bellamy stopped 13 shots in her first-career start, helping Harvard earn the league-point.  Paula Romanchuk had two goals and an assist to lead the Princeton offense.  Princeton goaltender Cassie Seguin made 22 saves in the tie.  Harvard out shot Princeton 25-16.  Harvard's unbeaten streak now stands at nine games (6-0-3).

At No. 10 Boston University 4, Yale 1:  The Bulldogs spotted BU a 3-0 lead and could not recover, as they fell, 4-1 in non-conference play.  Freshman forward Alyssa Zupon scored her first- career goal for the Bulldogs.  Goalie Melissa Haber recorded 27 saves for her eighth win of the season, while Bulldog counterpart Jackee Snikeris stopped 30 shots in the game.  Forward Melissa Anderson netted the first two goals of the game for BU and added an assist on forward Jillian Kircher's second period tally for a three-point game.

At Niagara 7, Colgate 2:  The Raiders fell to non-conference opponent Niagara, 7-2, Friday afternoon at Dwyer Arena in Niagara Falls, N.Y.  The Raiders fall to 5-13-3 overall while the Purple Eagles improve to 8-7-4.  Freshman Jenna Klynstra was the first to score for the Raiders, while Beth Rotenberg notched the final goal for Colgate, her fifth goal of the season.  The Purple Eagles received goals from seven different student-athletes, including three different defensemen.  Colgate out shot Niagara by a count of 38-32.
