Weekend Update: The Comforts of Home
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Home ice was nice in the five
ECAC Hockey Friday evening games, as three of the teams skating on
their home ice earned wins, while the two other hosts picked-up one
point each for ties. In the nation's spotlight game of the
weekend No. 7/10 Cornell upset No. 2/2 Clarkson, 2-0.
At No. 7/10 Cornell 2, No. 2/2 Clarkson 0:
Winners of five straight games the Big Red used a solid defensive
effort and a pair of third-period goals to claim a 2-0 victory over
the second-ranked Clarkson Golden Knights Friday night at Lynah
Rink. The loss ends Clarkson's seven-game winning streak as
the Knights fall to 11-2-1. Sophomore Kendice Ogilvie scored
what would turn out to be the game-winner four minutes into the
third period, while fellow sophomore Catherine White added an
insurance goal 10 minutes later for the Big Red. Sophomore
Amanda Mazzotta stopped 33 Clarkson shots on her way to her third
shutout of the season. Lauren Dahm stopped 23 shots in taking
the loss for Clarkson.
At Dartmouth 4, No. 9/10 Princeton 1: Senior
Sarah Toupal tallied a career-high two goals and freshman Sasha
Nanji netted her first collegiate goal as Dartmouth skated past
Princeton, 4-1, Friday night. Senior goaltender Mariel Lacina
earned her second win with 21 saves between the pipes. The
Tigers had junior Laura Martindale net their lone goal on a
power-play with the assist going to junior Sasha Sherry.
Sophomore Rachel Weber took the loss in net, making 18 saves on the
evening.
At Union 0, Brown 0 (ot): In a fierce battle
between rookie goaltenders, visiting Brown battled Union to a 0-0
scoreless overtime tie in league-play Friday evening.
Dutchwomen freshman goaltender Alana Marcinko made 24 saves to
preserve her first career shutout, while rookie Bears' goalie Katie
Jamieson made 30 saves to shut down the Dutchwomen. The game
was the second tie in three games for Brown. For the second
straight game, Union has not allowed a power-play goal.
At Rensselaer 4, Yale 1: Junior center
Sydney O'Keefe tallied a pair of goals, including her team-leading
seventh of the season, as the Engineers defeated the visiting
Bulldogs, 4-1 Friday. Freshman forward Danielle Moncion got
her first-career goal to tie Friday night's game at RPI 1-1 early
in the first period for the Bulldogs. Junior Sonja van der
Bliek stopped 23 of the 24 shots she faced, including 10 in the
first period, to pick up her fourth victory of the season.
Junior Jackee Snikeris made 18 stops for Yale, which held a 24-22
shot advantage in the game. At Colgate 2, St. Lawrence
2 (ot): Senior assistant captain Britni Smith scored a
short-handed goal with only two seconds remaining in regulation
Friday evening, helping St. Lawrence earn a dramatic 2-2 tie with
Colgate in Hamilton, NY. The tie broke a streak of
three consecutive losses at Starr Rink for the Saints. Junior
defenseman Michelle Zimmerman netted her second goal of 2009-10
season getting the Saints on the board in the first period.
Marissa Dombovy and rookie Brittany Phillips netted goals for the
Raiders. The visitors finished with a 29-24 advantage in
shots on goal, and neither team was able to get much offense going
on the power-play. Colgate was 0-for-3 with the extra skater
while St. Lawrence closed with an 0-for-2 mark. Junior Lisa
Plenderleith finished the game with 27 stops for the Raiders.
Senior Maxie Weisz collected 22 saves for St. Lawrence.
At No 8 Harvard, Quinnipiac (ppd): Friday's
game between the No. 8 Harvard Crimson and the visiting
Quinnipiac Bobcats scheduled for 7 p.m. was postponed. The
game will now be played Sunday, Nov. 15 at 1p.m. Tickets
purchased for Friday's game will be honored Sunday.
