Seven Players with League Ties Earn Gold

VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Seven players with current or former ties to ECAC Hockey members helped Team Canada win the gold medal at the 2010 Olympics, as the Canadians defeated Team USA, 2-0, in the gold-medal game Thursday at Canada Hockey Place.

Rebecca Johnston, a current student-athlete at Cornell; along with former Crimson alumnae Jennifer Botterill and Sarah Vaillancourt; Brown alum Becky Kellar; former St. Lawrence standout Gina Kingsbury; and Dartmouth alumnae Gillian Apps and Cherie Piper each were awarded gold medals as members of Team Canada.

Former Harvard alumnae Angela Ruggeiro, Julie Chu and Caitlin Cahow earned silver medals while playing for the U.S. national team.

Canada used a pair of goals from Marie-Philip Poulin and a fantastic outing in net by Shannon Szabados to keep the American's offensive attack quiet en route to victory.

Former Cornell coach Melody Davidson guided Canada to gold, while Jodi McKenna, a former Brown standout who previously served as an assistant coach at St. Lawrence, helped guide Team USA to silver in her role as assistant coach.
