ALBANY, N.Y. -- ECAC Hockey is pleased to announce the selection of 21 student-athletes representing ten of its women's programs to the All-Star team that will take on the 2010 U.S. Women's National Team Sunday, January 3, at TD Bank Sports Center on the campus of Quinnipiac University as part of Team USA's 2009-10 Qwest Tour. The tour was created for Team USA to challenge elite-level competition in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, B.C.
The Qwest Tour, presented by Qwest Communications, features the 2009-10 USA Women's National Team playing a 10-game domestic tour in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, B.C.
The ECAC Hockey team is made of 11 seniors, four juniors, and six sophomores. At forward the list is headlined by three of the league's top four scorers in overall play with Dominique Thibault and Britney Selina from Clarkson and Katie Stewart from Colgate. Filling out the roster at the forward position are Tara Akstull from St. Lawrence, Union's Emilie Arsenealut, Janine Duffy from Quinnipiac, Kate Buesser and Anna McDonald from Harvard, Chelsea Karpenko from Cornell, Yale's Bray Ketchum, Whitney Nashlund from Rensselaer, and Paula Romanchuk from Princeton.
On the defensive side of the puck, the roster is highlighted by 2008-09 all-league selections Carlee Eusepi of Clarkson and Sasha Sherry from Princeton. Filling out the blueline for the exhibition game are Harvard's Cori Bassett, Stephanie Denino of Princeton, Laura Gersten of Rensselaer, and Amanda Young from Cornell.
In goal, the ECAC Hockey All-Stars feature 2009 ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Year Kimberly Sass from Colgate and a pair of junior netminders Jackee Snikeris of Yale and Sonja van der Bliek from Rensselaer.
Princeton's head coach Jeff Kampersal has been named head coach of the ECAC Hockey All-Stars with Rensselaer's head coach John Burke and Yale's head coach Hilary Witt behind the bench serving as assistant coaches.
The USA National Team features three former League standout student-athletes - Caitlin Cahow, Harvard (2004-2008), Julie Chu, Harvard (2003-2007), and Angela Ruggiero, Harvard (1999-2004).
Team USA has already defeated the WCHA All-Stars, 6-1, on Sept. 25, North Dakota on Oct. 10 by a score of 11-1, and Hockey East All-Stars by a count of 4-0 on Nov. 22.
The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children, and a $3 group rate for 15-plus. Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Quinnipiac Box Office or by calling the ticket hotline at (203) 582-3905.
