Top League Teams Featured in National Polls
ALBANY, NY -- With the final weekend of the regular-season on the horizon, three of the top ECAC Hockey women's programs have earned the respect of the voters in the USCHO.com Poll released, Monday, February 15 and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll released, Tuesday, February 16. Harvard is positioned in the No. 5/6 positions, Clarkson is ranked No. 6/5, and Cornell is seated in the No. 9/10 slot.
Winners of nine of its last 11 contests, Harvard maintained its No. 5 position in the latest USCHO.com Poll earning 87 points and No. 6 in the latest USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll garnering 101 points. The Crimson won two-of -three games last week, including capturing their 13th Beanpot Tournament title, by stopping No. 9 Northeastern, 1-0. The Crimson sit tied for third in league standings with Rensselaer as they earned a road weekend split. In a pair of one goal games, Harvard was edged by the Engineers, 3-2, in overtime Friday and then came back to slip by Union, 2-1, Saturday. Harvard's regular-season will conclude this weekend as it travels to the North Country to take on St. Lawrence Friday and Clarkson Saturday.
Clarkson, now tied with Cornell for the top spot in the ECAC Hockey standings, fell two spots from the No. 6 position to the No. 4 spot in the latest USCHO.com Poll with 74 points and one spot to No. 5 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll. The Golden Knights took both contests last weekend into the extra session, dropping a 1-0, overtime game at Princeton Friday and battling to a scoreless overtime tie at Quinnipiac Saturday. With an 8-1-0 conference home record, the Golden Knights will face-off against Dartmouth Friday and Harvard Saturday, as they look to secure the league's regular-season crown.
Sporting a 13-8-6 overall record and now in a first-place tie in the ECAC Hockey standings with Clarkson, Cornell is now ranked No. 10 in the latest USCHO.com Poll (17 points) and No. 9 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll (24 points). The Big Red has shutout its last four opponents and only given up four goals in their last seven games. Cornell, 6-1-2 in league action at home, will close out the regular-season in the friendly confines of Lynah Rink when it plays Rensselaer Friday at 7 p.m. and Union Saturday in a 4 p.m. start.
