Win Streaks Result in Poll Positions
ALBANY, NY - Riding three of the nation's five longest unbeaten streaks on the young season, Clarkson, Cornell, and Princeton earn spots in the top-10 in the USCHO.com national poll released Monday, November 9. These three teams, along with Harvard also earned spots in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll released Tuesday, November 10.
The Golden Knights (11-1-1) continue to roll picking up three first-place votes in each poll sit at the No. 2 spot in each poll, Cornell (4-2-0) vaults to the No. 7 position in the USCHO.com poll and No. 10 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, while No. 10 Princeton (4-1-1) enters the poll for the first time this season in the USCHO.com poll and No. 9 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. The Crimson move from the No. 10 spot to the No. 8 spot USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.
For the second consecutive week Clarkson is ranked in the No. 2 spot in the USCHO.com (136 points) and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll (171 points). The Golden Knights are only allowing 1.15 goals-against over 13 games, which ranks seond in the nation. Not to be outdone is their offense that has netted 43 goals in 13 games.
Cornell, winners of four straight league contests, have relied on dependable special teams to help them climb from No. 10 to No. 7 in the USCHO.com poll with 42 points and earned 298 points to earn recognition in theUSA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll at the No. 10 position. The Big Red rank first in the country having successfully killed 21-of-22 penalty kills (95.5). Cornell's power-play has scored on seven-of-28 chances on the season for a 25.0 success-rate.
Princeton, winners of four straight league games, features a high-powered offense that has exploded for 27 goals in six games this season. This offense combined with a defense that posted two shutouts last weekend has earned the Tigers the No. 10 spot in the USCHO.com poll with 31 points and the No. 9 spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll with 34 points.
Harvard remained in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll jumping from the No. 10 position to the No. 8 spot earning 48 points.
