Fortino, Rougeau Each Score Twice in Win Over Colgate
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Freshmen Laura Fortino and Lauriane Rougeau both
scored a pair of goals as the Cornell women's hockey team picked up
a 6-0 victory over Colgate on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink.
Rougeau added a pair of assists to lead the Big Red with four
points on the night.
Amanda Young and Melanie Jue added goals for the Big Red (10-7-4,
9-1-4 ECAC Hockey), which got three assists from Catherine White.
Amanda Mazzotta stopped 17 shots for her sixth shutout of the
season, tying her for the all-time single season lead in that
category. Colgate goaltender Lisa Plenderleith stopped 32 shots in
taking the loss for the Raiders, who fall to 7-15-4 on the year and
3-7-4 in league play.
Cornell got on the board just 2:22 into the game on a power-play
strike from Fortino, with Rougeau and White recording assists.
Midway through the first period, it was Fortino again, this time
taking a cross-ice pass from Chelsea Karpenko on the power play to
jam home the puck on the weak side.
In the second period, the Big Red tacked on another pair of goals,
with Rougeau and Young scoring to make the score 4-0. Young's goal
came on the power play, a shot through traffic from the blue line
that went in high over the shoulder of Colgate goaltender Lisa
Plenderleith.
In the third, Melanie Jue scored five and a half minutes in,
converting on a two-on-one with White, and Rougeau capped the
scoring midway through the period, picking up a loose puck in the
Colgate end, getting a shot off and scoring on her own rebound for
the final margin.
Cornell finished the night 3-for-7 on the power play and held
Colgate scoreless in three power-play attempts.
The Big Red returns to action on Friday when it opens up a two-game
trip to the North Country at St. Lawrence in a 7 p.m. start at
Appleton Arena in Canton, N.Y.
