Colgate Downs Dartmouth
HANOVER, N.H. - The Colgate women's hockey team earned a
decisive 6-4 victory against Dartmouth on Friday evening at
Thompson Arena. It marks the second time in two years that the
Raiders have defeated the Big Green and just the fifth time ever.
Colgate improves its overall record to 7-13-3 and 3-5-3 in the
ECAC, while Dartmouth drops to 6-9-2 overall and a 4-7-1 mark in
the league.
The Raiders jumped out to a 5-1 lead mid-way through the second
period, which despite two quick goals in the second and another in
the third the Big Green were unable to stage a successful comeback.
Colgate's leading scorer and senior Katie Stewart (Exeter, Ont.)
led the Raiders in scoring with two goals followed by Jordan
Brickner (Lake Forest, Ill.) and rookie Brittany Phillips (Lauder,
Man.) who tallied a goal and an assist apiece. Sarah Parsons led
Dartmouth picking up a hat trick, tallying three goals and an
assist.
Brickner was the first to score for Colgate, lighting the lamp
just under seven minutes into the first period. Parsons responded a
few minutes later netting her first goal of the game and tying it
at 1-1 at 14:13 in the first stanza. Freshman Jenna Klynstra

Colgate opened the second period with three consecutive goals, all
coming within a five minute span. Phillips was the first to find
the net with 11:01 expired in the period. Stewart was the next to
score giving the Raiders a three point lead, 4-1, with 8:30
remaining in the second. Senior was next to score, putting in the
Raiders only power-play goal of the game in the final 30 seconds of
the period and giving Colgate a 2-1 advantage heading into the
first break. Colgate finished the game 1-4 on the power-play. Beth
Rotenberg (Toronto, Ont.) picked up Colgate's final goal of the
stanza, putting in the eventual game-winning goal at 14:10. Jessi
Waters (Menlo Park, Calif.) and Evan Minnick (Highlands Ranch,
Colo.) assisted on the game-winning goal as Waters collected her
second assist of the period.
After a goalie change by the Big Green, the squad was sparked by a
second goal from Parsons tallying two in the final two minutes of
the second period. Parsons second goal came at with 1:31 remaining
followed by Dartmouth's third goal of the game, from Jenna
Cunningham. Despite the Big Green's two last minute goals, the
Raiders were able to enter the third period with a 5-3
advantage.
Stewart added an insurance goal to open the third period, tallying
her 14th goal of the season five minutes into the final stanza.
Parsons would close out the game with one final goal with just
under two minutes remaining in the match.
Junior Lisa Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.) had 45 saves in the game,
just one shy of her career-high. Whitney Woodcox had 17 stops in 32
minutes of play while Mariel Lacina had eight in the remaining
time.
The Raiders will be back on the ice tomorrow when they take on No.
6 Harvard at 4 p.m. in Boston, Mass.
