Tigers Top Union
PRINCETON -- Junior Paula Romanchuk scored two
goals and added two assists to help lead the Princeton women's
hockey team to a 6-3 win over Union on Saturday afternoon at Hobey
Baker Rink in ECAC Hockey action.
The Tigers took control of the game with two goals in the second
half of the second period after the teams traded goals over the
first 30 minutes of the game. Union opened the scoring 16 seconds
into the game as Rhianna Kurio knocked in a deflected shot.
Princeton answered three minutes later when junior Laura Martindale
scored her first goal of the season. Romanchuk gained control of
the puck along the boards and fed Martindale at the point for the
goal.
Romanchuk scored two goals nine seconds apart in the second minute
of the second period to give Princeton a 3-1 lead. Her first came
on the rebound of her own shot and the second came after she jammed
in a loose puck lying in the crease. Sophomore Danielle assisted on
both goals and had three points in the game.
Union quickly answered to knot the game at 3-3. In the sixth
minute, Lauren Cromartie deflected a point shot in and at 9:19
Emilie Arsenault scored on a breakaway with a backhand shot.
DiCesare gave Princeton the lead back at 13:37 of the second
period when she snuck a shot under the blocker of Union goaltender
Alana Marcinko. Romanchuk and sophomore Heather Landry had assists
on the go-ahead goal. Princeton made it a two-goal lead with 26
seconds left in the period when senior Maddie Endicott netted her
second goal in as many nights, scoring on the power play off a feed
from freshman Kelly Cooke.
Freshman Corey Stearns capped the scoring in the final minute of
the game with her first of the season on the power play. Cooke and
classmate Alex Kinney added assists on the team's sixth goal.
Princeton sophomore goaltender Rachel Weber made 10 saves for her
second win of the year and Marcinko made 32 saves in the loss.
Princeton is now 2-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the ECAC. Princeton
visits Yale and Brown next weekend.
