Colgate Ties Sixth-Ranked Dartmouth
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Senior Evan Minnick
(Highlands Ranch, Colo.) put in the game-tying goal in the final
minute of play as the Raiders skated to a 5-5 tie against ECAC
opponent Dartmouth. Both teams are now 0-1-1 in the ECAC with
the Raiders earning their first tie this season for an overall
record of 1-6-1.
The Big Green gained an early lead in the first period as Jenna
Cunningham collected her first two goals of what would become her
first hat trick of the season. The senior put in her first
goal early in the period at 4:56, adding her second just before the
end at 19:34.
The Raiders fought their way back in the second period as Minnick
put the Raiders on the board in the 17th minute of play. A
minute later Cunningham tallied her third goal of the night and
Dartmouth's second of the period, putting the Big Green up 4-1.
Freshman Brittany Phillips (Lauder, Man.) was quick to
respond for the Raiders, tallying her first point of the night at
19:05 in the second stanza.
Colgate really came alive in the third period after entering the
period down 4-2. Seniors Beth Rotenberg (Toronto, Ont.) and
Katie Stewart (Exeter, Ont.) were the first to score in the third
period. After receiving the puck from Minnick at Colgate's
blue line, Stewart continued untouched to the Big Green's end of
the ice putting in a hard shot over the goalie's left shoulder.
With just 3:10 left on the clock Amanda Trunzo snuck in a shot
past Colgate's sophomore goaltender, Kimberly Sass (East Amherst,
N.Y.) to put Dartmouth back in the lead, 5-4. The
Raiders however would not bow to sixth ranked Dartmouth as Minnick
again found the net in the final 55 seconds of play, to tie the
game 5-5.
Sass made two saves in overtime to keep the Big Green off the
board and finished the game with a total of 31 saves. Whitney
Woodcox made 27 saves for the Dartmouth, while Mariel Lacina
stepped in for the overtime session to make two saves.
Colgate went 2-8 on the power-play while the Big Green finished at
3-7.
The Raiders will be back in action next Friday, Nov. 6th when they
take on ECAC opponent Rensselaer in Troy, N.Y. at 2:30 p.m.
