Tigers Edged by Boston U.

PRINCETON - Boston University's Lauren Cherewyk scored on a rebound with 6:33 remaining to lift her team to a 3-2 win over the Princeton women's hockey team on Saturday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.

The eighth-ranked Terriers never trailed in the game, but Princeton twice battled back to tie the visitors at 1-1 and 2-2.

The teams traded goals late in the first period as BU's Melissa Anderson put her team ahead by pushing the puck over the goalline after Sarah Appleton's point shot snuck through Princeton freshman goaltender Cassie Seguin and laid loose in the crease at 18:41.

The Tigers answered back less than a minute later with a power-play tally as sophomore Heather Landry netted her team-leading seventh goal of the year by knocking in the rebound of sophomore Paula Romanchuk's initial shot. Junior Sasha Sherry also had an assist on the goal.

The Terriers went ahead 1:37 into the second period when Appleton connected with her third goal of the season, picking off a Tiger clearing attempt and putting a quick shot into the Tiger goal from the top of the left circle.

The score remained 2-1 in the Terriers' favor until 2:12 into the third period when the Tigers knotted the score at two goals apiece on senior Julie Flynn's first tally of the season as senior Melanie Wallace got her the puck off a BU clearing attempt.

The score remained even until Cherewyk's goal with 6:33 to play. Jenelle Kohancuk's initial shot from in between the circles was stopped by Seguin, but the rebound came to Cherewyk on the left side and she put home the rebound for the game winner.

Seguin made 24 saves in the loss, while BU goaltender Melissa Haber stopped 31 shots. Princeton outshot the Terriers 33-27.

Princeton falls to 7-4-1 with the loss and resumes league play next weekend at St. Lawrence and Clarkson.
