Raiders Fall to Top-Ranked Mercyhurst
ERIE, Pa. -- The Colgate women's hockey team
fell to top-ranked MercyhurstCollege, 8-3, in a non-conference
match-up Friday evening at the MercyhurstIceCenter in Erie,
Pa. The Raiders now drop to 3-10-3 overall while the Lakers
improve to 11-1-1.
Senior Katie Stewart (Exeter, Ont.) had one goal and one assist to
lead the Raiders in scoring for the night. Mercyhurst scored
six goals in the first two periods to jump out to a 6-1 lead from
which Colgate was never able to recover.
Hannah Milan (Great Barrington, Mass.) was the first to light the
lamp for the Raiders, scoring less than a minute after the Lakers
recorded their first point, at 13:07 of the first
period. Mercyhurst then scored five unanswered goals before
the end of the second period. Colgate's offense was
more aggressive in the final period, getting off 10 shots in the
third compared to just eight total shots between the first two
periods. Stewart opened the period with a short-handed goal
just 1:04 into the stanza. The Lakers responded with a
short-handed goal of their own a short time later to maintain their
five point lead, 7-2.
Senior Evan Minnick (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) tallied the Raiders
final goal of the evening with just over four minutes remaining in
the game. Stewart and Whitney Routman (Northbrook, Ill.) were
given the assists.
Sophomore goaltender Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.) had 22
saves for the Raiders. Hillary Pattenden finished with seven
saves while Stephanie Ciampa made eight stops. The Lakers went
4-10 on the power-play while Colgate finished 0-9. The
Raiders will face Mercyhurst again tomorrow, Nov. 28 at the
MercyhurstIceCenter in Erie, Pa. starting at 2 p.m.
