Raiders Fall Short to Wayne State
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Freshman Brittany Phillips
(Lauder, Man.) netted her second career goal in the final seconds
of the third period, but the Colgate women's hockey team fell just
short to Wayne State 4-3 on Friday, Oct. 23 at Starr
Rink.
After a scoreless opening period, senior Beth Rotenberg (Toronto,
Ont.) scored at 5:16 in the second period to put the Raiders on the
board first. Rotenberg received the puck from freshman Jenna
Klynstra (Edmonton, Alta.) on the left side of the goal and cut to
her right sneaking the puck past Wayne State goaltender Delayne
Brian and into the right corner of the goal.
The Warriors earned their first goal of the game ten minutes later
as Gina Buquet put one past Colgate's Kimberly Sass (East Amherst,
N.Y.) on a four-on-four play. The Raiders responded just over
two minutes later at 17:58 in the period. One of Wayne
State's defenders attempted to clear the puck, but instead
sophomore defender Amanda Kirwan (Mississaugua, Ont.) gained
control of it and sent it toward the back of the goal, sending the
Raiders into the third period with a 2-1 lead.
Wayne State entered the third period on a power-play, but the
Raiders were able to kill the penalty. Just a few seconds
later the Warriors tied the game with an early third period goal
coming from Julie Ingratta at 1:48. Wayne State would collect
two more goals over the third period coming off the sticks of
Adrianna Pfeffer and Veronique Laramee-Paquette, giving the
Warriors a 4-2 advantage.
