Cunningham Nets Milestone in Dartmouth Win
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior co-captain Jenna
Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.) netted two goals, including her
100th career point as the Dartmouth women's hockey team defeated
Yale, 6-2, to complete the weekend sweep.
In addition to Cunningham's two goals, Dartmouth got a pair of
goals and two assists from senior co-captain Sarah
Parsons (Dover, Mass.) for four points. Sophomore Kelly
Foley (Boston, Mass.) and junior Amanda
Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Senior Mariel
Lacina (London, Ont.) earned her third win in net this season,
making 23 saves between the pipes.
Yale (1-7-1, 1-7-0 ECAC, 0-3-0 Ivy) saw scores from Aleca Hughes
and Caroline Murphy. Genny Ladiges made 32 saves in the defeat for
the Bulldogs.
Dartmouth (4-3-1, 4-3-1 ECAC, 3-1-0 Ivy) got started early as
Cunningham reached the 100-point plateau just 2:17 into the game to
give the Big Green an quick 1-0 lead. She didn't stay at 100 points
long. Cunningham increased the lead eight minutes later with her
sixth of the year with the assist going to Foley.
Yale cut the lead to 2-1 on a power play goal from Hughes, but
Dartmouth fired back with one of its own from Foley to make it 3-1.
Parsons assisted on the play and then pushed the lead up to 4-1
with her own man advantage goal coming with 6:49 left in the
period.
The Bulldogs pulled back to within two goals at 4-2 on Murphy's
tally with the assists to Jamie Gray and Beck Mantell.
In the third period, Trunzo got in on the act with a goal 5:25 into
the frame. Parsons assisted on her second goal of the night.
Parsons then sealed the deal at 6-2 with an empty net goal with
2:39 remaining in the game. Trunzo earned her second point of the
night as she assisted on the play.
Dartmouth will be back on the ice this coming Wednesday night with
a showdown against rival Harvard at 7 p.m. at the Bright Hockey
Center in Cambridge.
