Late Goal Earns Radiers Tie
HAMDEN, Conn. (11/20/09) - Freshman Britney
Phillips (Lauder, Man.) netted her sixth goal of the season and the
only Raiders goal of the game as Colgate finished tied, 1-1,
against fellow ECAC opponent Quinnipiac on Friday evening.
The Raiders are now 2-8-3 overall and 1-3-3 in the ECAC, while the
Bobcats are 6-4-3 overall and 4-1-2 in the conference.
The first two periods went by uneventfully, with both goals of the
game coming in the third period. Sophomore goaltender
Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.) made 23 saves in the
draw. Quinnipiac's Victoria Vigilanti had 28 stops in
goal.
The Bobcats were he first to score in the third period as Melissa
Perry picked up her first goal of the season to give Quinnipiac the
1-0 advantage. Perry's goal came at 11:39 in the session and
was unassisted.
The Raiders responded with just 2:30 left on the clock.
Phillips' initial shot was stopped but the rookie picked up
the rebound and tucked the puck into the left corner. Senior
Beth Rotenberg was credited with the assist as Colgate made it a
tied match. Neither team was able to put it between the posts
in the overtime session as Sass finished the extra minutes with
three saves.
Colgate will be back in action tomorrow when they take on No. 10
Princeton at Hobey Baker Rink. Start time is scheduled for 4
p.m.
