Maine Defeats Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Senior forward Abby Barton scored the game-winning goal as Maine defeated the Union College women's ice hockey team 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The win improves the Black Bears to 3-5-3 overall while Union is 3-14-1 overall.

Barton scored the first goal of the game 15:30 into the second period when a cross by Myriam Croussette to Barton knocked the puck into the goal outside the crease.

Senior forward Jenna Ouellette scored two goals in the third period, including a power play goal and an empty net.

Sophomore goaltender Kate Gallagher made 24 saves in front of the net for Union. Sophomore forward Émilie Arseneault led the team with five shots taken. One of shots was a one-on-one scoring opportunity to tie the game at one but sophomore goaltender Candice Currier made the save directly to her.

Union will open the 2010 side of its schedule on New Year's Day, facing North Dakota. Faceoff is at 7 p.m. Union will face North Dakota the next day at 4 p.m.
