Dutchwomen Downed By Colgate
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Sophomore goaltender Kate Gallagher made
another spectacular performance Saturday, making 34 saves but the
Union College women's ice hockey team were down 4-0 by Colgate.
Colgate (2-7-1, 1-2-1 ECACH) struck first in the first period when
Jessi Waters scored outside Union's (2-8-0, 0-4-0 ECACH) goal
crease. Just after Union went full strength, Brittany Phillips made
another shot outside the crease to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead 8:28
into the game.
But Union did not stay quiet for long. Freshman forward Emma Rambo
made a shot straight to the goal but the puck barely missed the
left post. Freshman forward Jeannie Sabourin made another shot to
the goal but the puck hit Colgate goaltender Lisa Plenderleith's
neck. Just after it was deflected, junior Lauren Hoffman responded
with a shot but was covered by Plenderleith.
In the second period, Jordan Brickner made a direct shot to the
goal but Gallagher made the save using her left arm to deflect the
puck over the crossbar.
Union made another response again when sophomore forward Lauren
Cromartie made a shot from inside the right faceoff zone but
Plenderleith made the catch.
In the third period, Phillips made a shot directly to the goal but
Gallagher deflected the shot with her left arm.
When Union was playing short handed due to a penalty, sophomore
forward Émilie Arseneault moved the puck toward the goal and
her shot outside the neutral zone was caught by Plenderleith.
Union will continue its' four-game homestand on Nov. 13, when the
Dutchwomen will take on Brown.
