Princeton Earns Second Straight Shutout
PROVIDENCE, RI -- Junior Sasha Sherry and
sophomore Paula Romanchuk each had a goal and an assist to lead the
Princeton women's hockey team to a 5-0 win at Brown on Saturday
afternoon as Princeton recorded its second straight shutout.
Princeton wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as the
team's first shot found the back of the net. Sophomore Heather
Landry opened the scoring 14 seconds into the game with her fourth
goal of the season from Romanchuk and junior Sasha Sherry.
The Tigers made it 2-0 in the final minute of the period when
Romanchuk netted her third of the season from classmate Danielle
DiCesare and freshman goaltender Cassie Seguin. Princeton caught
Brown on a change with the goal as Seguin moved the puck up ice to
create the scoring chance.
Princeton built its lead in the second with goals from freshman
Kelly Cooke and Sherry. Cooke's goal came at 13:23 with assists
from junior Maddie Endicott and freshman Alex Kinney. Sherry's goal
came with three minutes left in the period as the Tigers skated
with a two-man advantage. Senior Stephanie Denino and DiCesare
assisted on the goal.
The Tigers closed the scoring in the third period when sophomore
Julie Johnson scored at 4:19 from senior Melanie Wallace.
Princeton outshot Brown 38-18. Seguin stopped all 18 shots she
faced; including 10 in the final period to record her second win of
the season and her second straight shutout. She now has shut out
her opponents for the last 163:16.
Princeton is now 4-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the ECAC. The Tigers
visit Dartmouth and Harvard next weekend.
