Dartmouth Falls to No. 2 Clarkson
HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's hockey
team struggled on the power play and never got going as Clarkson
defeated the Big Green, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Thompson
Arena.
Dartmouth (1-2-1, 1-2-1 ECAC Hockey) got its lone goal from junior
Amanda
Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) on the power play with junior Larissa
Roche (Thorhild, Alta.) and sophomore Kelly
Foley (Boston, Mass.) providing the assists. In net, senior Mariel
Lacina (London, Ont.) pushed aside 20 shots in the loss.
Clarkson (11-1-1, 5-0-0 ECAC Hockey) continued to roll in league
play, getting goals from three different skaters with Britney
Selina leading the way with a goal and an assist. Juana Baribeau
stepped in for the Golden Knights and earned two helpers in the
win. Lauren Dahm stopped 24 shots, including 10 in the first period
to come away with the victory.
After a scoreless first period, Clarkson took a 1-0 lead 5:36 into
the second frame on a breakaway goal from Daris Tendler. She was
serving a two minute penalty and broke out of the box and Selina
found her at the offensive blueline. Tendler skated in and beat
Lacina high to the blocker side.
Dartmouth fired back four minutes later on Trunzo's fourth of the
season on the power play. Foley slid the puck over to junior Larissa
Roche, who put the puck on net and Trunzo was in front for the
tip-in score to even the game at 2-2.
The Golden Knights jumped back on top at 2-1 with a goal coming
during a 5-on-3 advantage. Lacina was able to make the initial save
on Carle Eusepi, but Melissa Waldie was there for the clean up and
gave Clarkson the lead back going into the final period.
In the third period, the Golden Knights slammed the door on the Big
Green as Selina tallied her sixth goal of the year just 29 seconds
into the third period to put Clarkson on top for good at 3-1.
Dartmouth had problems again on the man advantage, going 1-for-8
with extra skater, while the Golden Knights got one power play goal
in four chances. The Big Green won the shot battle with a 25-23
advantage.
Dartmouth will be back on the ice next weekend at Thompson Arena as
Princeton and Quinnipiac visit Hanover, starting on Friday night
with Princeton at 7 p.m.
A reminder to fans that Skate with the Big Green will be taking
place tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. at Thompson. Participants are
asked to bring their own equipment for this fun-filled day with the
women's hockey team.
