Raiders Blank Union on Road
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The Colgate women's hockey
team bounced back from a loss to Rensselaer on Friday afternoon to
shutout ECAC opponent Union, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink
in Schenectady, N.Y. The Raiders improve to 2-7-1 overall and
1-2-1 in the ECAC with the win, while the Dutchwomen fall to 2-8-0
overall and 0-4-0 in the conference.
Junior Jacquie Colborne (Calgary, Alta.) and freshman Brittany
Phillips (Lauder, Man.) both tallied two points from a goal and an
assist to lead the Raiders scoring column. Junior Lisa
Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.) led Colgate between the posts, making 12
stops to hold the Dutchwomen scoreless throughout three periods of
play.
Junior Jessi Waters (Menlo Park, Calif.) was the first to
score for Colgate knocking in a shot from outside the crease just
3:25 into the game. Just five minutes later Phillips
collected her first point of the night netting the Raiders second
goal of the period giving them an early 2-0 advantage.
Senior Katie Stewart (Exeter, Ont.) picked up the Raiders third
goal, coming in the 14th minute of the second period.
Classmate Marissa Dombovy (Webster, N.Y.) had an assist on
the goal, while Stewart goal marks the third straight game in which
she has scored one or more goals.
Colborne wrapped up the scoring for Colgate putting in one final
goal with just over two minutes remaining in the game.
Phillips picked up the assist. Union's sophomore
goaltender Kate Gallagher had 34 saves in the loss, while neither
team was able to convert on the power-play with Colgate going 0-9
and the Dutchwomen 0-4.
The Raiders will be back in action next weekend when they continue
conference play against St. Lawrence and Clarkson
universities. Colgate will first face St. Lawrence on Friday,
Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in Starr Rink. The Raiders will host
Clarkson the following day, Saturday Nov. 14 at 4 p.m.
