Dutchwomen Fall to No. 10 Cornell
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Sophomore goaltender Kate Gallagher made a
team-season high 38 saves as the Union College women's ice hockey
(2-7-0, 0-3-0 ECACH) team were set back by No. 10 Cornell (3-2-0,
3-0-0 ECACH) on Friday. It was the first game the Dutchwoman has
face a team ranked by USCHO this season.
Cornell struck first in the first period. With the Dutchwomen
killing a penalty, Melanie Jue scored in front of the goal at 05:55
into the game. Nearly two minutes later, Laura Danforth scored
Union's second goal with help from Kendice Ogilvie.
The Dutchwomen offense made their presence late in the first period
when freshman forward Rhianna Kurio made a shot that went pass the
right goal post.
Kurio made a run through the right from center but her shot outside
was saved by Cornell goaltender Amanda Mazzotta. The Big Red
offense kept the puck in the Dutchwomen's zone. Sophomore forward
Kelly Alyea made a shot just outside the neutral zone but was saved
by Ogilvie.
Union's closest goal was from senior defenseman Jackie Koetteritz.
The co-captain's shot just outside the neutral zone hit the right
post and was cleared by Cornell.
The Dutchwomen opened the third period making three shots toward
the goal. Freshman forward Jeannie Sabourin and junior forward
Callee Heywood each took a close shot from the left goal post but
both were saved by Ogilvie.
