Eusepi's Power-Play Goal Gives Knights Win
CAMBRIDGE, MA - After rolling off five straight
wins at home, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team took to
the road to start a six-game trip away from Cheel Arena, beginning
at ECAC Hockey rival Harvard University. The change of venue did
little to slow down the second-ranked Golden Knights as a
third-period power-play goal from senior Carlee Eusepi (Oakville,
ONT) lifted Clarkson to a 2-1 win over the Crimson Friday
night.
The Golden Knights improved to 10-1-1 overall and 4-0-0 in ECAC
Hockey, and the team leads the conference in points (8) in the
early going. Harvard fell to 1-2-0 overall and in league play.
Clarkson will face another challenge on Saturday when they visit
Dartmouth.
Following a scoreless, evenly played first period, Harvard became
the first team in nearly a month to hold a lead against the Golden
Knights, picking up a score at 5:48 in the second period when
Kaitlin Spurling finished off a pass from Randi Griffin. It was the
first time that Clarkson had trailed in over 325 minutes since the
team suffered its only loss of the season against Vermont in
mid-October. However, Harvard's advantage would be short lived as
senior Dominique Thibault (L'Original, ONT) connected for her
team-high eighth goal of the season, with the assist going to Juana
Baribeau (Amos, QUE), at 12:19 of the second.
After a penalty was called on the Crimson at 2:31 in the third
period, Eusepi took just 17 seconds of extra-player skating time to
give the Knights their only lead of the game, tallying on the power
play from Thibault at 2:48 into the third period.
Junior Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) stopped 25 shots, including
12 in the final frame, for the Knights. Christina Kessler made 20
stops for Harvard.
Clarkson was out shot 26-22, but went 1-for-5 on the power play
while Harvard was shut out in five extra-skater chances.
