Raiders Split Weekend Play with Loss to Yale
HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Colgate women's ice hockey
program split the weekend 1-1 after falling to Yale, 3-0, Saturday
evening at Starr Rink. The Raiders, who defeated Brown, 4-2 on
Friday night, are now 4-12-3 overall and 2-5-3 in the ECAC.
Yale improves to 3-8-2 overall and 2-7-1 in the conference.
Despite outshooting Yale, 9-4 in the first period and 43-17
in the game, the Bulldogs would be the first to score, starting off
with an even-strength goal at 2:55 in the first stanza.
Yale's Bray Ketchum had a breakaway down the right side of
the ice, sending the puck over Colgate's goaltender, Lisa
Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.), and into the left corner of the net.
Alyssa Clarke and Alyssa Zupon each had an assist on Ketchum's
fourth goal of the season. Yale gained a 2-0
advantage in the second period, with Samantha MacLean picking up
her first goal of the season for the Bulldogs.
The Raiders, who had 18 shots in the period and several good
opportunities to score, their best chance coming with 5:44 left on
the clock. Junior Hannah Milan (Great Barrington, Mass.) shot
the puck into the crease and behind Yale goaltender Jackee
Snikeris, but the junior goalie turned just in time, stopping the
shot from crossing the goal line.
The Bulldogs scored once more, a power-play goal from Ketchum,
before claiming the 3-0 victory. Yale finished 1-4 on the
power-play while the Raiders went 0-6.
Plenderleith picked up 14 saves in net for the Raiders while
Snikeris made 43 stops for the Bulldogs.
The Colgate women's hockey team is done with play for the month of
December and will return to the ice January 2, 2010, as they take
on Syracuse at 7 p.m. in the Tennity Ice Pavilion.
