Weekend Update: Road Warriors
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Clutch performances help ignite
road wins in the first weekend of the final stretch of the regular
season in ECAC Hockey women's action. Four road teams earned
victories and one road team knotted a tie in the six league
contests last evening.
No 4/4 St. Lawrence 2 at Cornell 1: The
Saints avoided their second overtime game this season with Cornell,
as senior assistant captain Carson Duggan picked up the
game-winning goal with 23 seconds left in regulation to help the
Saints escape Lynah Rink in Ithaca, NY with a 2-1 victory.
With the win St. Lawrence remained unbeaten against Cornell in its
last 21 meetings with the Big Red and won their tenth straight game
at Lynah Rink. Senior forward Alison Domenico netted the
Saints' first goal, while Cornell's sophomore forward Rebecca
Johnston scored her 15th goal of the year for the Big Red.
St. Lawrence closed with a narrow 32-30 advantage in shots on goal,
while neither team was able to pick up a power play goal (Cornell
0-for-3, St. Lawrence 0-for-1). Junior Brittony Chartier
helped St. Lawrence win its sixth straight game with a 29-save
performance, while freshman Amanda Mazzotta turned in 30 saves in a
losing effort.
Clarkson 1 at Colgate 1 (ot): Colgate
extended its unbeaten streak in ECAC Hockey to eight games with a
1-1 tie against in-state rival Clarkson Friday night, at Starr
Rink. Freshman forward Juana Baribeau gave the Golden Knights
the early lead netting a goal in first period, while junior foward
Beth Rotenberg lit the lamp in the third period tying the game for
the Raiders. Colgate held a slight 34-27 edge in shots on
net, with freshman Kimberly Sass making 26 saves for the Raiders
and sophomore netminder Lauren Dahm stopping 33 for Clarkson.
Colgate went 1-for-9 on the power play with the Golden Knights
going 0-for-5.
No. 9/9 Dartmouth 8 at Rensselaer 4:
Sophomore forward Amanda Trunzo netted a career-high four goals to
lead the ninth-ranked Big Green to an 8-4 win over Rensselaer in
ECAC Hockey action Friday night. Forwards junior Jenna
Cunningham and senior Maggie Kennedy handed out a game-high three
assists. Junior forward Whitney Naslund had a goal and added
an assist for Rensselaer. In net, senior Carli Clemis tied
Kelley Coyne for third all-time in goaltending wins with 52 as she
made 23 stops for Dartmouth. RPI's sophomore Sonja van der
Bliek took the loss for the Engineers, making 29 saves before
giving way to senior Emily Ford midway thru the third period.
The Big Green also outshot RPI, 40-27, in the game. Dartmouth
was an impressive 6-for-9 on the power play, while the Engineers
were 2-for-4.
At Princeton 3, Yale 2: Senior defender
Katherine Dineen scored two goals, including the game-winner in the
final second of a third-period power play, to lead the Tigers to a
3-2 win over a gamely Yale squad Friday night at Baker Rink.
Sophomore forward Bray Ketchum and senior defender Helen Resor
netted the goals for the Bulldogs. Princeton outshot Yale
26-21 in the contest. Senior Kristen Young made 19 saves in
logging the win for the Tigers, while freshman goalie Genny Ladiges
finished with 23 for Yale.
Brown 3 at Quinnipiac 0: Brown captured a
league win against Quinnipiac Friday night, knocking off the
Bobcats 3-0 behind multiple point performance from juniors Nicole
Brown (2-1-3) and Andrea Hunter (1-1-2) and sophomore Jenna
Dancewicz (0-2-2). Senior goalie Nicole Stock recorded 30
saves on the night for her first shutout of the season. The
win snapped a six-game skid for the Bears, and pulled them within
two points of Quinnipiac in the league standings. Sophomore
Tia Wishart made 20 saves in the loss for the Bobcats.
Harvard 5 at Union 1: Three strikes in the
second period by the Crimson help knock-out the Dutchwomen en route
to a 5-1 win at Messa Rink. Sophomore forward Katharine Chute
tied her career-high with three points, scoring twice and
collecting an assist, while senior forward Jenny Brine tallied one
goal and earned three assists for Harvard. Junior Christina
Kessler kicked aside five shots for the win, while senior Lundy Day
made 43 for Union.
