Weekend Update: Teams Clinch Playoff Spots
ALBANY, N.Y. -- The ECAC Hockey women's playoff
picture is beginning to become a bit clearer as seven out of the
eight spots are now filled. The juggling for seeding and home
ice will take shape in the final portion of the teams'
schedules. The League's ‘Pink at the Rink' promotion
will continue this weekend as well. For more information fans

At No. 6/6 St. Lawrence 6, Quinnipiac 2: The
Saints added to their first-place lead in League standings, as
junior forward Tara Akstull scored two goals and assisted on a
third to guide St. Lawrence over Quinnipiac, 6-2 at Appleton Arena
Friday night. With the win, the Saints gained two points on
second place Dartmouth, which was upset at Colgate, 2-1 Friday and
now holds a three point lead on Dartmouth and Harvard with three
games to play in the regular season. Junior netminder
Brittony Chartier improved her personal record to 21-7-3 by making
25 saves for St. Lawrence.
At Colgate 2, No. 8/8 Dartmouth 1:
Last-minute heroics by the Raiders led to the Raiders' 2-1 upset
win over No. 8/8 Dartmouth, as junior forward Marissa Dombovy found
the back of the net with 16 seconds remaining. The win was
the Raiders 17th of the season tying a school record. Dartmouth
outshot the Raiders 40-18 in the contest as freshman goaltender
Kimberly Sass made 39 saves for her school tying 12th win of the
season. Freshman forward Reagan Fischer scored the lone goal
for Dartmouth. Senior goaltender Carli Clemis made 16 stops
for the Big Green. Colgate went 0-for-5 on the power-play and
Dartmouth went 0-for-7.
Harvard 5 at Cornell 2: Senior forward Sarah
Vaillancourt scored four goals and collected an assist for her
third hat trick this season and ninth of her career, as the Harvard
women's hockey team topped Cornell, 5-2, Friday evening at Lynah
Rink. Junior goaltender Christina Kessler made a career-high
35 saves for Harvard, while sophomore forward Katharine Chute
contributed two assists and senior forward Jenny Brine added a
goal. Cornell's sophomore forward Rebecca Johnston scored both of
the Big Red's goals with freshman forward Catherine White earning
two assists. Freshman netminder Amanda Mazzotta made 29 saves in
net for Cornell. Neither team found the back of the net on
the power play with Harvard missing on three chances and Cornell
going 0-for-6.
Rensselaer 1 as Yale 1 (ot): Rensselaer
moved into sole possession of seventh place in the ECAC Hockey
standings after earning a 1-1 overtime tie at Yale Friday night and
clinched its first playoff berth since the 2006-07 season.
The Engineers have 19 points, one point ahead of Cornell in the
League standings. Sophomore forward Kendra Dunlop netted the
lone goal for the Engineers, while freshman defenseman Heather
Grant scored a game-tying goal in the third period for the
Bulldogs. Sophomore goaltender Jackee Snikeris, while
Rensselaer's sophomore Sonja van der Bliek made 16.
Princeton 2 at Clarkson 1: Sophomore
defender Sasha Sherry scored the game-winner midway thru the third
period to lift Princeton to a 2-1 victory at Clarkson Friday
night. The win helped the Tigers remain in a tie for fourth
in the ECAC Hockey standings as the teams fight for home ice in the
ECAC Hockey playoffs. Sophomore defender Laura Martindale
netted the first Tigers' goal early in the first period to give
Princeton the lead. Senior forward Annie Greenwood picked-up
two helpers on the evening for the Tigers who outshot the Golden
Knights by a count of 30-27.
At Brown 3, Union 2: The Bears and
Dutchwomen were deadlocked 2-2 heading into the third period after
each netting two power play goals. The only scoring in the
third period came from the Bears' sophomore defender Erica Kromm
who netted the game-winner five minutes into the period. In a
battle of two of the most durable senior goaltenders the Bears'
Nicole Stock stopped 14 shots and Union's Lundy Day turned away
31.
