Weekly Release: Dartmouth Continues to Roll
ALBANY, N.Y. - The three nationally-ranked ECAC Hockey teams
combined for a record of 4-1-1 last weekend. No. 3/3
Dartmouth earned a four-point weekend with two home victories, No.
5/6 St. Lawrence posted a weekend split on the road, while No. 9/9
Harvard earned a win and a tie in league-play. All three
teams have been ranked in national polls for the last ten
weeks.
No. 3/3 Dartmouth earned its fourth and fifth straight home wins of
the season, as senior co-captain Sarah Newnam tallied a career-high
two goals, including the game-winner with 55 seconds remaining to
guide the Big Green in a comeback win over Cornell, 5-4, Friday
night. The following afternoon Dartmouth received goals from
seven different skaters, as the Big Green remained undefeated in
Thompson Arena, cruising to a 7-2 win over Colgate. Newnam
had both game-winners in the two contests.
Senior forward Sarah Vaillancourt tallied two goals and collected
three assists and senior forwards Sarah Wilson and Jenny Brine each
recorded a score and an assist as No. 9/9 Harvard skated to a 5-5
tie against Colgate Friday evening at Bright Hockey Center.
Sophomore forward Hannah Milan recorded two goals for the
Raiders. Colgate was 3-for-8 on the power play and 10-for-11
on the penalty kill. Freshman Kimberly Sass recorded 36 saves
for Colgate, while senior netminder Brittany Martin recorded 15 for
the Crimson.
Senior forward Sarah Wilson scored twice and collected three
assists and senior forward Sarah Vaillancourt had two goals and two
assists to lead No. 9/9 Harvard to a 5-1 victory over Cornell
Saturday. Sophomore forward Rebecca Johnston scored Cornell's
lone goal.
Clarkson earned two road league wins over the weekend, blanking
Quinnipiac 2-0 Friday, behind a ten save effort by sophomore Lauren
Dahm, and by coming from behind Saturday for a 3-2 overtime win at
Princeton. Senior defender Kimberly McKenney netted the
game-winner on a power play for the Golden Knights.
Princeton and St. Lawrence each split weekend games. The
Tigers handed the Saints their first league loss of the season by a
count of 4-2, Friday. The Saints entered the game with an
undefeated ECAC Hockey record and with one loss total. Four
different Tigers ended the game with two-point efforts.
Tigers' senior goaltender Kristen Young made 28 stops in getting
the victory.
Behind junior goaltender Brittony Chartier, the Saints earned a bit
of redemption Saturday, as they shutout ECAC Hockey foe Quinnipiac
at the TD Banknorth Center, 2-0, to earn a weekend split.
Chartier made 20 saves in earning her third shutout of the
season.
The Engineers improved their overall record to 8-5-2 with a
three-point weekend. Rensselaer's aggressive offense posted
58 shots on goal, but only mustered two goals in Friday's 2-2 with
Robert Morris. Third-period goals from junior forward Whitney
Naslund and freshman forward Alisa Harrison gave the Engineers a
2-0 win Saturday over the Colonials. Sophomore Sonja van der
Bliek earned the shutout in net for the Engineers, stopping all 22
shots she faced.
Brown dropped two non-conference decisions at home last
weekend. The Bears were downed in a close game Friday night,
losing a 4-2 decision to Niagara. Sophomore forward Maggie
Suprey and junior forward Nicole Brown each scored for
Brow.n. The Bears were handed a 5-1 loss at the hands of No.
10 Mercyhurst. Senior forward Frances Male picked up her
first goal of the season in the defeat. Sophomore forward
Maggie Suprey and freshman forward Vika Mykolenko picked-up the
assists for Brown.
