Princeton Joins Saints, Big Green in Polls

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Princeton Tigers roared into 2009, joining League members St. Lawrence and Dartmouth among the nation's top teams in the two national polls, released Tuesday.

Princeton (9-8-1 overall, 6-5 in ECAC Hockey), under the guidance of head coach Jeff Kampersal, garnered the No. 10 slot in the USCHO.com poll. The Tigers, who compiled 14 points in the poll, have won three of their last four games--all on the road--including wins over nationally ranked Minnesota-Duluth (4-3 December 13), Harvard (1-0 January 2) and Dartmouth (4-1 January 3).

Head coach Chris Well's Saints (11-4-3 overall, 6-1-1 in ECAC Hockey) hold the No. 5 position in both polls, registering 113 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and 86 points in the USCHO.com poll. St. Lawrence, which hosts Boston College this weekend, dropped its previous two games at Mercyhurst December 12-13.

Dartmouth (8-5-2 overall, 6-3-2 in ECAC Hockey) holds the No. 8 slot in both polls, registering 64 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and 35 points in the USCHO.com poll. The Big Green went 1-2-1 in four games over the holiday break.

The 12th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the American Hockey Coaches Association and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.

The USCHO.com Poll is compiled weekly and consists of 15 voters, including 12 coaches of Division I programs and three women's hockey writers. USCHO.com provides in-depth coverage of college sports, including hockey, lacrosse, soccer and others.
