Clarkson Enters Poll; Harvard, Dartmouth and St. Lawrence Hold Spots

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Clarkson, which recorded a home sweep of Mercyhurst last weekend, earned the respect of the poll voters garnering the No. 10 spot in both national polls, released Tuesday. Harvard, Dartmouth and St. Lawrence remain entrenched in the top 10.

The Golden Knights entered the polls for the first time, accumulating 19 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, and 16 points in the USCHO.com poll. Clarkson earned its first wins of the season last weekend, knocking off visiting Mercyhurst 5-2 Friday and 4-2 Saturday. The Golden Knights look to extend the win streak this weekend at Niagara.

Harvard, which opens regular-season play at Quinnipiac Friday, remains No. 3 in the country, registering the slot in both polls. The Crimson, who defeated McGill, 3-1, Saturday in exhibition action, tallied 152 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, and 121 points in the USCHO.com poll.

Dartmouth, which dropped a 3-2 decision to McGill Friday, ranks No. 5 (99 points) in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and No. 6 (72 points) in the USCHO.com poll. The Big Green battle Princeton Friday in the opening game of their regular season.

St. Lawrence, which swept visiting Robert Morris last weekend, sports an overall mark of 3-1-2 and the No. 9 position in both polls. The Saints garnered 48 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and 39 points in the USCHO.com poll.

The 12th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the American Hockey Coaches Association and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.

The USCHO.com Poll is compiled weekly and consists of 15 voters, including 12 coaches of Division I programs and three women's hockey writers. USCHO.com provides in-depth coverage of college sports, including hockey, lacrosse, soccer and others.
