Trio Maintains Presence

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The trio of Harvard, St. Lawrence and Dartmouth continued to maintain a presence on the national scene, once again earning berths in the latest national polls, released Tuesday.

The Crimson of Harvard, the reigning ECAC Hockey regular-season and tournament champion, held fast in the No. 3 slot in both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and USCHO.com polls. Harvard tallied 142 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, and 118 points in the USCHO.com poll. The Crimson open their 2008-09 campaign against McGill in exhibition action on October 25.

The Saints of St. Lawrence, coming off a weekend in which they posted a 1-0-1 mark, occupy the No. 6 slot in both polls. Head coach Chris Wells' squad advanced one slot in the USCHO.com poll, tallying 67 points, and remained at No. 6 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll with 92 points.

The Big Green of Dartmouth, like Harvard, have yet to commence play in 2008-09. Dartmouth moved up one slot to No. 7 in the USCHO.com poll (50 points), and held at No. 8 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll (54 points). The Big Green host McGill October 24 to open their 2008-09 campaign.

The 12th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the American Hockey Coaches Association and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.

The USCHO.com Poll is compiled weekly and consists of 15 voters, including 12 coaches of Division I programs and three women's hockey writers. USCHO.com provides in-depth coverage of college sports, including hockey, lacrosse, soccer and others.
