Parsons Nets Milestone as No. 9 Dartmouth Defeats Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Junior Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) became the 29th member of the Big Green 100-point club with a goal in the first period as the ninth-ranked Dartmouth women's hockey defeat Union, 4-2, to finish off the weekend sweep in New York.

For Dartmouth (14-6-2, 11-3-2 ECAC Hockey), Parsons joined senior Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.) as the two members of this year's squad to reach 100 points in a career. Parsons also added an assist in the second period for a two-point night. Freshman Kelly Foley (Boston, Mass.) extended her goal-scoring streak with a tally in the first, while senior co-captain Shannon Bowman (Leamington, Ont.) increased her point streak with a power play goal in the second period. Junior netminder Mariel Lacina (London, Ont.) got the start in net and made 15 saves for her third win of the year.

For Union (2-23-3, 0-15-3 ECAC Hockey), Chelsey Heinhuis and Emilie Arseneault tallied the goals with Arseneault also added an assist for a two-point night. Lundy Day started between the pipes for the Dutchwomen and pushed aside 32 shots.

Dartmouth continued its goal scoring ways in the first period with a pair of tallies. The first came with just under nine minutes remaining in the opening frame as Foley netted her ninth of the season and extended her goal-scoring streak to six games. Freshman Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alta.) and senior Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.) were credited with the assists.

The Big Green increased their lead to 2-0 over the Dutchwomen with 11 seconds remaining in the period as Parsons netted her ninth goal of the season for her 100th career point in a Dartmouth uniform. Defensive linemates Katie Gray (Calgary, Alta.) and Sarah Newnam (Clifton, Va.) were given the assists and for Gray it was her second in as many nights.

In the second period, the Big Green kept the pressure on and 1:25 into the frame junior Jenna Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.) scored to make it a 3-0 game. For Cunningham, it was her eight of the year. Senior Marley McMillan (St. Paul, Minn.) and junior Sue Schmitz (Brookfield, Wis.) earned the helpers on the play.

Union got on the board in the second on the power play with 8:14 left. Chelsey Heinhuis tallied the goal with Adelle Callahan and Emilie Arseneault credited with the assists as the Dutchwomen cut the Big Green lead to 3-1.

Dartmouth went back on the offensive three minutes later as Bowman continued her point tear by increasing her point streak to nine games with her sixth of the year to put the lead back up to three at 4-1. Parsons added to her career totals with the assist, along with senior Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.).

Union, once again, came back and tried to make a game of it with a goal midway through the final period as Arseneault tallied the goal to make it 4-2 Dartmouth. The goal came unassisted and Arseneault finished the night with two points.

Both teams netted a power play goal in three chances, while the Big Green held a 36-17 shot advantage.

Dartmouth will back in action this coming weekend as the Big Green hosts Brown and Yale at Thompson Arena, beginning on Friday night.
