Union Falls to Harvard at Messa Rink
SCHENECTADY, NY - Senior
goaltender Lundy Day made 43 saves as Union was outshot 48-6
in a 5-1 loss to Harvard on Friday, Jan. 30 at Messa Rink. The loss
drops the Dutchwomen to 2-22-3 overall this season, including a
0-14-1 mark in ECAC Hockey. Harvard improves to 9-7-3 with a 9-4-2
record in league play.
Harvard outshot Union 14-2 in the first period, but
the Dutchwomen weathered the storm and escaped the period with
the score tied at 0-0. Things changed in the second period,
however, as Harvard got on the board 35 seconds after stepping on
the ice. The Crimson added another goal at the 2:33 mark to
go up 2-0. With 6:36 remaining in the frame, Katharine
Chute found the back of the net to put her team up 3-0.
The Dutchwomen got on the board with just their second shot of the
second period. With 1:18 on the clock, Jackie Koetteritz
scored through traffic in front of the net after getting help from
Emilie Arseneault and Adelle Calahan. Arseneault accounted for
half of Union's shots on goal in the game.
Harvard put the game out of reach in the third period, starting
with a power-play goal by Cori Bassett six minutes into
the session. Chute netted her second of the night with
about four minutes to play to set the final score.
Union is at home again on Saturday when it hosts Dartmouth at 4:00
p.m.
