Raiders Tie Clarkson, Stretch Unbeaten Streak to Eight Games
HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/30/2009) - The Colgate University women's
hockey team extended it unbeaten streak in ECAC Hockey to eight
games with a 1-1 tie against in-state rival Clarkson Friday night,
at Starr Rink.
Clarkson (13-8-5, 7-4-3) opened the scoring 12:03 in the first when
Juana Baribeau snuck one past freshman goaltender Kimberly Sass
(East Amherst, N.Y.). Sass had Baribeau's breakaway read well, but
a late poke check from behind made Baribeau lose possession of the
puck and watch it sneak past Sass. The Raiders out-shot Clarkson
13-6 in the period but went into the first intermission trailing
1-0.
Both squads went scoreless in the second but had plenty of chances
as both goalies came up big. The Raiders went scoreless on five
power-play opportunities in the period, as Clarkson tallied a 14-7
shot advantage.
Colgate (14-9-3, 8-4-3) lit the lamp registering a power-play tally
at 4:20 in the third period to tie the score 1-1. Senior Clancy
Todd (Thorold, Ont.) took a shot from the top slot that Clarkson
goaltender Lauren Dahm stopped, but junior Beth Rotenberg (Toronto,
Ont.) found the puck off the rebound and found the net to knot the
score. This was Rotenberg's ninth goal and 18th point of the
season. Sophomore Jessi Waters (Menlo Park, Calif.) was also
credited with an assist. In overtime Clarkson out-shot the
Raiders 2-1, but it wasn't enough as the two teams tied for the
third straight time.
Colgate held a slight 34-27 edge in shots on net, with Sass making
26 saves and Dahm stopping 33. Colgate went 1-for-9 on the
power play and was a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Raiders return to action tomorrow Saturday, Jan. 31 against No.
4 St. Lawrence at 4 p.m. The game will be covered live on Time
Warner Sports.
