Raiders Drop Game Two Against Dartmouth
HANOVER, N.H (2/28/09) - Freshman goaltender
Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.) made 27 saves and senior Sam
Hunt (Calgary, Alta.) scored her second goal of the series but it
wasn't enough as the Colgate women's hockey team fell 2-1 to
Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at Thompson Arena. The loss ties the
best of three ECAC Quarterfinals series at one game
apiece.
Colgate (19-13-3, 13-7-3) scored its only goal midway through the
first period when Hunt recorded her fifth-point of the series.
Hunt's goal was assisted by senior Clancy Todd (Thorold, Ont.).
Dartmouth (17-9-4, 13-6-4) lit the lamp first, registering a tally
16 seconds into the first period to go on top 1-0 off a Sarah
Parsons goal. The Big Green had plenty of chances to extend their
lead in the first with three power-play opportunities, but Colgate
answered the challenge, tying the score 1-1 midway through the
first off Hunt's goal.
The two teams went scoreless in a physical second period. Colgate
had two power-play opportunities to take the lead, but this time
Dartmouth goaltender Carli Clemis stood her ground. Colgate
out-shot the Big Green 21-18 through the first two periods, 12
shots in the second. Dartmouth took the lead 2-1, 6:21 into
the third when Parsons recorded her second of the game, fifth of
the series. Colgate had its fourth power-play opportunity during
the final four-minutes but couldn't capitalize.
The Big Green out-shot Colgate 29-28. Colgate went 0-4 on the
power-play and went a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty-kill. Sass
finished 27 saves, while Clemis recorded 27 for Dartmouth.
Colgate returns to action tomorrow for game three of the ECAC
Quarterfinal series against Dartmouth. The game is scheduled to
begin at 2 p.m.
