Harvard Skates Past Cornell
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--The Big Red women's ice hockey team was
shutout by Harvard, 3-0, on Friday evening in its first game of the
ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals. The two teams will meet again on
Saturday afternoon to continue the best-of-three series. Junior
Jenny Niesluchowski made 31 saves as the Big Red moves to 12-13-5
overall for the season, while the Crimson improved to 18-9-3.
After a scoreless first period, Kathryn Farni notched what
would be the game-winner at 17:24 of the second. Jenny Brine and
Sarah Vaillancourt picked up the assists on the goal.
Liza Ryabkina lengthened her team's lead to 2-0 at 2:36 of the
third when she scored unassisted. Brine notched Cornell's third
goal 10:44 of the third. Vailliancourt and Katharine Chute assisted
on the goal.
Goaltender Christina Kessler earned the win for the Crimson making
36 saves. Cornell was 0-3 on the power play, while Harvard was
0-5.
Laura Danforth, Rebecca Johnston, and Karlee Overguard each had
five shots for the Big Red.
Cornell will look to even the series on Saturday afternoon for a 2
p.m. contest.
