Raiders Take Opener at Dartmouth in Overtime
HANOVER, N.H -- Sophomore Jessi Waters (Menlo
Park, Calif.) scored two goals including the game winner in
overtime to give the Colgate women's hockey team a 7-6 win over
Dartmouth Friday afternoon at Thompson Arena. The win gives Colgate
1-0 lead in the best of three ECAC Quarterfinals series.
Colgate (19-12-3, 13-7-3) scored four goals in the first, one in
both the second and third periods before Waters finished the game
2:44 into overtime. Senior Clancy Todd (Calgary, Alta.) found
Waters with a perfect two-line lead pass leading to the breakaway
goal. Colgate lit the lamp first, registering a tally 1:28
into the first period to go on top 1-0. Junior Beth Rotenberg
(Toronto, Ont.) intercepted a pass in the Dartmouth zone and beat
goaltender Carli Clemis unassisted through the five hole. The Big
Green then tied the game four minutes later when Sarah Parsons slid
one past freshman goaltender Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.).
Colgate answered back with a pair of goals in a two-minute span to
take a 3-1 lead. Senior Laura Jansen (Wilmette, Ill.) found the
back of the net off a rebound from junior Katie Stewart (Exeter,
Ont.) shot at the 6:42 mark, followed by a goal from senior Sam
Hunt (Calgary, Alta.).
The two teams split power-play goals as Colgate took a 4-2 lead
into intermission. Senior Kiira Dosdall (Fairfield, Conn.) scored
off a slap shot from the top of the point to give the Raiders a two
goal cushion after Dartmouth trimmed the lead to 3-2. Dosdall was
assisted by Stewart and Hunt.
Dartmouth (16-9-4, 13-6-4) tied the score in the second 4-4 off a
pair of power-play goals from Parsons, who finished with a
hat-trick, before senior Elin Brown (Calgary, Alta.) gave Colgate a
5-4 lead at the 18:03 mark. Brown was assisted by junior Evan
Minnick (Highlands Ranch, Colo.).
The Big Green again scored a pair of goals in the third including
one from Amanda Trunzo with 13 seconds remaining to force overtime.
Jenna Cunningham scored first for Dartmouth 1:35 into the period to
knot the game 5-5. Waters scored her first of the game 11 minutes
later to give lead back to Colgate 6-5. Waters was assisted by Hunt
who recorded a game high four points. The Raiders held that lead
for nearly eight minutes before Trunzo scored with an extra
attacker after Dartmouth pulled its goalie.
The Big Green out-shot Colgate 38-32. Colgate went 1-2 on the
power-play, while the Dartmouth finished 3-6. Sass finished 32
saves, while Clemis recorded 25 for Dartmouth. Colgate
returns to action tomorrow for game two of the series against
