Dutchwomen Shutdown by Clarkson
SCHENECTADY, NY - Senior goaltender Lundy Day made 43 saves
in a 3-0 loss to Clarkson on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Messa
Rink. With the loss, Union stands at 2-21-3 overall and 0-13-1
in ECAC Hockey, while Clarkson improves to 13-8-4 overall and 7-4-2
in the league.
The Dutchwomen withstood a lop-sided first period in which Clarkson
outshot Union 18-2. However, Day was up to the task as the home
team was successful in killing off three early Clarkson power
plays. She also stonewalled the Golden Knights in the third period
when Union was outshot 15-9. Day had a little help from her best
friends as Clarkson hit the pipes five times on the afternoon.
The Golden Knights found their scoring touch in the second period.
Just three minutes into the frame, Britany Selina redirected a shot
by freshman Katelyn Ptolemy from the right point to give Clarkson a
1-0 lead. Melissa Waldie scored back-to-back goals, including one
on a shorthanded breakaway, within four and a half minutes to put
the visitors up 3-0 by the midway point of the game.
Clarkson goalie Eve Grandmont-Berube made 17 saves to earn her
first shutout of the season.
The Dutchwomen are back at Messa Rink next weekend for games
against Harvard and Dartmouth, Jan. 30-31.
