Golden Knights Blank Union
Schenectady, NY - A three-goal outburst early in
the second period and a 17-save effort from sophomore goaltender
Eve Grandmont-Berube (Drummondville, QUE) allowed the Clarkson
University Women's Hockey team to end a two-game losing skid with a
3-0 shutout of Union College Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights improved to 13-8-4 overall and 7-4-2 in ECAC
Hockey, while the Dutchwomen remained winless in conference at
9-13-1 with a 2-21-3 overall mark. Clarkson continues its five-game
conference road trip next weekend in Central NY at Colgate and
Cornell.
A dominating first period effort did not result in any goals for
the Golden Knights, despite an 18-2 shot advantage. However,
Clarkson found its offensive stride in the second period with a
three-goal flurry that proved to be enough for a Knights' victory.
Junior Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) scored her sixth goal of the
season with less than three minutes expired from the second period,
beginning the scoring streak. Freshmen Katelyn Ptolemy (Dinsmore,
SASK) and Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE) each assisted. At 6:19,
sophomore Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) scored her 11th goal of
the campaign with assists going to freshman Gabrielle Kosziwka
(Limehouse, ONT) and junior Genevieve Lavoie (Delson, QUE). Four
and a half minutes later, Waldie tallied a second goal, with
another assist going to Ptolemy, marking her first career
multi-point game. The Knights only three goals in the contest came
in a stretch of just 8:05.
Clarkson finished the game with a hefty 46-17 edge in shots as
Grandmont-Berube made 17 stops for her first shutout of the season
and the sixth of her career. Lundy Day made 43 saves for Union.
