Knights Fall A Goal Short Against Engineers
Troy, NY - A pair of second period goals were too much for the
Clarkson University Women's Hockey team to overcome as Rensselaer
defeated the Golden Knights 2-1 Friday evening in ECAC Hockey
action at the Houston Field House.
The Golden Knights came up on the short end for the second straight
game, falling to 12-8-4 overall and 6-4-2 in conference games,
while Rensselaer ended a three-game losing streak to Clarkson, and
a four-game winless streak in 2009, to move to 12-9-3 and
7-4-2.
After a scoreless first period, Rensselaer took little time getting
on the scoreboard in the second, tallying just 48 seconds into the
frame. Allison Wright scored for the fifth time this season, with
assists going to Sierra Vadner and Alisa Harrison. Harrison then
put the Engineers up 2-0 seven minutes later with assists going to
Wright and Whitney Naslund.
Trailing 2-0 in the third period, the Golden Knights finally got on
the scoreboard by taking advantage of a power-play chance.
Sophomore Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) became the third player
for Clarkson to score 10 goals this season as she tallied midway
through the extra-player advantage. Junior Genevieve Lavoie
(Delson, QUE) recorded her 15th assist of the season on the score,
as she continues to move towards 100 career points with 94.
Unfortunately, the Golden Knights would not record the equalizer in
the third period.
Sophomore Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) made 24 saves in the loss
for the Golden Knights while Sonja van der Bliek made 28 saves for
the Engineers. Clarkson out shot RPI 29-26 and went 1-for-5 on the
power play while RPI was scoreless in its five chances. Rensselaer
did control the faceoff circles, winning 35 of the 57 draws.
