Raiders Drop Season Finale
TROY, N.Y. -- Junior Beth Rotenberg (Toronto, Ont.) recorded her
second goal of the weekend, but it wasn’t enough as the
Colgate University women’s hockey team lost the regular
season finale to Rensselaer 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Houston Field
House.
Rensselaer (16-13-4, 11-8-3) opened the scoring 1:06 into the
first when Sydney O’Keefe slid one by sophomore goaltender
Lisa Plenderleith (Ajax, Ont.).The Engineers outshoot Colgate 13-7
in the period.
Rensselaer added its second goal 2:11 into the second to extend
its lead 2-0. The Raiders lit the lamp seven minutes later as
Rotenberg recorded her second power-play goal of the weekend to
trim the lead in half, 2-1. Rotenberg’s goal was assisted by
a pair of defenders senior Clancy Todd (Thorold, Ont.) and junior
Ali Edell (Mountain Lakes, N.J.).
The Engineers add their third goal at the 17:06 mark of the second
period to take a 3-1 lead into the intermission. Colgate out-shot
Rensselaer 10-9 in the period including its 45th power-play goal of
the season.
Rensselaer concluded the scoring 7:16 in the third for a 4-1 win
and split the season series. Colgate won the first game, 3-2 at
Starr Rink.
The Raiders out-shot Rensselaer 32-25 for the game. Plenderleith
made 21 saves in the loss while Sonja van der Bliek recorded 31 for
the Engineers. Colgate finished 1-5 on the power play and went
3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Colgate (18-12-3, 12-7-3) clinched the fifth-seed in the ECAC
playoffs on Friday and will travel to Hanover, N.H. next weekend to
face Dartmouth the No. 4-seed in the best-of-three quarterfinals
series. The first game is slated to begin Friday, Feb 27 at 7 p.m.
