Princeton Clinches Home Ice with Shutout at Brown

PROVIDENCE -- Senior Christine Foster had a goal and an assist and senior Kristen Young made 21 saves as the Princeton women's hockey team blanked Brown 3-0 on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium. The win clinched home ice for Princeton in next weekend's ECAC quarterfinals.

Following a scoreless opening period, Foster put Princeton ahead 1-0 with her seventh of the year 1:37 into the second period. The goal came on the power play and was assisted by senior Annie Greenwood and sophomore Sasha Sherry.

Princeton then put the game away with two goals in less than a minute late in the third period. Freshman Heather Landry made the score 2-0 with her sixth goal at 14:44 from Foster and Greenwood. Sherry then completed the scoring with her eighth of the year at 15:38. Freshman Julie Johnson and junior Julie Flynn assisted it.

Young made 21 saves for the shutout, her second of the year and the 14th of her career. The shutout puts Young first in the Princeton record books for career shutouts.

Princeton improved to 17-9-2 overall and 14-6-1 in the ECAC. The Tigers can finish either third or fourth in the ECAC standings and will host a quarterfinal playoff series next weekend.
