Raiders Earn Record Win
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Freshman goaltender Kimberly Sass (East
Amherst, N.Y.) made 21 saves and junior forward Beth Rotenberg
(Toronto, Ont.) recorded two-points including the game winning goal
as the Colgate University women's hockey team beat Union 2-1 Friday
night at Messa Rink. The win secured the Raiders fifth-place in the
ECAC.
Colgate (18-11-3, 12-6-3) scored two power-play goals, one in each
of the final two periods to record it 18th win of the season, a new
school record. Sass held the Dutchwomen scoreless for the final
27:11 to secure her school record 13th win of the season.
Union (2-28-3, 0-20-1) opened the scoring 12:49 into the second
period with a power-play goal from Lauren Hoffman. The Raiders
answered back nearly five minutes later when junior Marissa Dombovy
(Webster, N.Y.) lit the lamp for the fifth time in four games.
Dombovy's power-play goal was assisted by Rotenberg and junior Evan
Minnick (Highlands Ranch, Colo.).
Colgate took the lead 7:45 into the third when Rotenberg recorded
her 11th goal of the
season. Rotenberg's power-play goal was assisted by Dombovy and
Minnick, giving them all six points in the contest. Colgate
out-shot the Dutchwomen 45-22. The Raiders went 2-6 on the
power-play and held Union to 1-7. Sass made 21 saves for the
Raiders, while Day made 43 for Union. Colgate returns to
action tomorrow Saturday, Feb. 21 for its regular season finale at
Rensselaer. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
