Raiders Extend Winning Streak to Four
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Freshman goaltender Kimberly
Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.) made 20 saves and senior forward Sam Hunt
(Calgary, Alta.) recorded two-points including the eventual game
winning goal as the Colgate University women's hockey team beat
Union 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Starr Rink. This moved the Raiders
into a fifth-place tie with Clarkson and Rensselaer.
Colgate (12-9-2, 6-4-2) scored three goals, one in each period
while Sass held the Dutchwomen scoreless for 59:55 to secure the
Raiders fourth straight conference win. Sophomore Jessi
Waters (Menlo Park, Calif.) openedthe scoring with 1:03 remaining
in the first period with an assist from freshman Amanda Kirwan
(Mississauga, Ont.). Kirwan took the initial shot off a nice feed
form senior Elin Brown (Calgary, Alta.) before Waters sent the
rebound past Union goaltender Lundy Day.
Colgate out-shot the Dutchwomen 20-6 in the period for a 1-0 into
the first intermission. Hunt recorded her fourth goal in as
many games at 13:17 in the second off a nice feed from sophomore
Hannah Milan (Great Barrington, Mass.). After dumping the puck into
the Union zone during the closing seconds of a power-play junior
Katie Stewart (Exeter, Ont.) who was positioned above the right
face-off circle, sent the puck down to Milan below the circle who
immediately feed it over to Hunt in the low slot who found the back
of the behind Day. Hunt's goal was her 11th of the year and
extended the Raiders lead to 2-0 through the first two periods.
Sophomore Jacquie Colborne (Calgary, Alta.) gave Colgate a 3-0
lead at 14:16 in the third off assists from Hunt and senior Kiira
Dosdall (Fairfield, Conn.).
Union (2-19-3, 0-11-1) kept pushing for a goal in the closing
minutes and successfully snuck one past Sass with five seconds
remaining to make the final 3-1.
Colgate out-shot the Dutchwomen 34-21. The Raiders went 1-5 on the
power-play and held Union to 1-7. Sass made 20 saves for the
Raiders, while Day made 31 for Union.
Colgate returns to action Friday, Jan. 23 for a road game against
Brown. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m.Boxscore
