Clarkson Back on Winning Track
Potsdam, NY - A third-period goal from freshman
Danielle Boudreau (Whitby, ONT) cinched a victory for the Clarkson
University Women's Hockey team, as the Golden Knights posted a 2-0
ECAC Hockey victory over Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon in front of
243 fans at Cheel Arena.
The Green and Gold improved to 16-11-5 overall and 10-7-3 in ECAC
games, while the Bobcats dropped to 3-24-5 overall and 2-13-5 in
league contests. Clarkson will close out the regular season slate
next weekend when the team visits Harvard and Dartmouth.
Although the Knights controlled the puck in the Quinnipiac
defensive end for most of the first period, it took some time
before they were able to get any legitimate shots on goal, as most
of their attempts went harmlessly wide. Clarkson ended the stanza
with an 8-3 shot advantage, belying their hard-working effort in
the opponent's zone.
Clarkson's dominance in puck control finally paid off early in the
second period. Senior assistant captain Marie-Jo Gaudet
(Sherbrooke, QUE) found linemate Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) in
the slot, where Selina wristed in a shot around a screen to give
Clarkson a 1-0 lead at 5:19 into the second period. Quinnipiac
capably held off the Knights for the remainder of the period,
despite a 10-2 disadvantage in shots, and Clarkson went into the
second intermission with a single goal lead and an 18-5 edge in
shots.
Quinnipiac remained in the contest until late in the game, thanks
to solid play from goaltender Nanna Holm Glaas. With just over five
minutes to go in the game, a scrum occurred in front of the
Bobcats' goal, and just as Glaas appeared ready to clear the puck
out of the crease, Danielle Boudreau came flying through to tip in
the errant puck past Glaas' stick side. The goal was Boudreau's
fourth of the season, with the assist going to classmate Kali
Gillanders (Kyle, SASK), also her fourth.
Sophomore Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) finished with just 11
saves, but it was enough to post her fifth shutout of the season
and the 10th of her young career. Glaas made 28 saves for
Quinnipiac. The Bobcats went 0-for-3 on the power play, while
Clarkson was scoreless in four chances. The Knights finished with a
30-11 edge in shots.
Following the game, the Golden Knights' Athletic Department
recognized its three seniors, Gaudet, captain Kimberly McKenney
(Smiths Falls, ONT), and Courtney O'Connor (Chicago, IL) for their
impressive run at Clarkson.
