Dombovy's Late Goal Gives Colgate Win
HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/13/09) - Junior Marissa Dombovy (Webster,
N.Y.) found the back of the net with 16 seconds remaining to give
the Colgate women's hockey team a 2-1 win over No. 8 Dartmouth
Friday evening at Starr Rink. The win was the Raiders 17th of the
season tying a school record.
In the closing seconds of the third period the Big Green turned the
puck over in its on zone to senior Sam Hunt (Calgary, Alta.). Hunt
immediately found Dombovy, who tapped in her second goal of the
game past goaltender Carli Clemis. Dombovy scored unassisted at the
12:45 mark in the third to tie the game.
Dartmouth (16-7-2, 13-4-2) lit the lamp first, as Reagan Fischer
registered an unassisted tally 9:08 in the second period. The Big
Green out-shot Colgate 28-9 through the first two
periods.
Colgate (17-10-3, 11-5-3) was able to tie the game late in the
third when Dombovy stole the puck from a Dartmouth defender in its
own zone and quickly writsted a shot past Clemis.
Dartmouth out-shot the Raiders 40-18 as freshman goaltender
Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.) made 39 saves for her school
tying 12th win of the season.
Colgate went 0-5 on the power-play, but was a perfect 7-for-7 on
the penalty kill.
Colgate returns to action next tomorrow Saturday, Feb. 14 for
senior day against Harvard. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
